Strong run ends early for the Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT4.R in Continental Tire SportsCar Chall
IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge

With only one race under the team's belt with the new Camaro GT4.R, co-drivers Matt Bell and Robin Liddell were eager to see what they could get out of their GS class machine for Round 5 of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. As weather around the Watkins Glen area remained spotty, both Bell and Liddell hoped for rainy conditions. Bell made some promising moves during his stint and ran as high as fifth during his opening run. As rain moved in, Bell pitted for a full wet setup before returning to the track and shortly thereafter handed the car over to Liddell. As the Camaro was in contention for a podium result with Liddell behind the wheel during the final stages, an engine failure unfortunately ended Stevenson Motorsports' day early on Lap 33. The team will look to apply the lessons learned this weekend next week as the series travels north to Canada for the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park race next Saturday. Team Quotes: Matt Bell: “The car really proved to be much better in the dry than we had anticipated. The car was a little loose, but a fast loose and it reminded me of the older GS cars which I am familiar with. The morale is still pretty high here since we have been showing some gains that we didn’t expect to see this early on.” Robin Liddell: “After the second restart the car performed really well. We’ve dealt with little gremlins this weekend but in reality, I thought we put on a really great show and put on a better race then we did at COTA. The balance was really there today and we were able to fight for a bit. Unfortunately, we lost power at the end but I have every confidence in the GM guys and the team that we will have it sorted out before our next event at Canadian Tire MotorsportsPark.” Mike Johnson (Team Strategist): “We had a great couple of pit stops and got right to the front but the car just isn’t fast enough yet to really compete with the leaders but Robin was really hanging onto it. It’s still a good weekend for the guys and we are still learning. With us being the only Camaro team here, there is really only one of us doing it. We are making progress and looking forward to hopefully gaining more speed at CTMP.” Round 5 of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge will continue next weekend, July 7th - 9th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
